The Board’s Muddy Transparency Record Gets Muddier

shutterstock_30389137You may remember that Jeffco school board broke policy GP02 #10 (which requires that a vote only take place after items having been on an agenda at least two times) at the Dec. 10, 2015 board meeting. They did this by giving the go ahead for adding a new middle school in south Jeffco, making Bradford schools a K-8 set of schools. The board was called out on breaking policy by both Eye on Jeffco School Board and Support Jeffco Kids due to the negative effects of not having a broader community discussion on how this change affects surrounding schools and articulation areas.   Continue reading

Lies, damned lies and statistics! Turns out Jeffco Recall isn’t Free

woman lyingYou know the old aphorism…fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me! Well it looks like Jeffco voters might be in the middle of learning they are in the “fool me twice” position.

Coming right off the heels of learning that the National Education Association (aka Teachers Union) donated $150,000 to Jeffco United in May of 2015 for the sole purpose of agitating the community ahead of recalling the former conservative board majority (even though the public was told that the union had nothing to do with this recall), we now learn that putting the recall on the November ballot has cost the Jeffco taxpayers nearly $225,000.00. Hey Jeffco: Your Debt Load Just Went UP $53 million

mad girl crop Listening to the new Jeffco school board discuss school capacity, it might seem as if student enrollment across Jeffco is skyrocketing; such is not the case. While northwest Arvada certainly has new developments pushing enrollment at some neighborhood schools, enrollment across the district over the last ten years is relatively flat. In fact enrollment in district run schools has decreased over 6% and yet the new board just voted to spend over $50 million for 1,000 new seats in district run schools. Continue reading
